About

The Therapy Services team at Hunt Regional Healthcare works hard to help patients get back to life, family, and friends as quickly as possible. Whether you receive inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation services, each program is designed to meet your needs.

Our programs cater to individuals facing various difficulties, including limitations in self-care, impaired mobility, balance, and coordination, joint strength and motion restrictions, changes in memory and cognitive functions, speech and communication problems, and swallowing disorders. These difficulties can arise from conditions such as stroke, hip fractures, certain forms of arthritis, amputations, neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, major multiple trauma, spinal cord injury, and brain injury.

There are several key differences between inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation at Hunt Regional. These differences include:

  • Length of Stay: Inpatients live within the Rehabilitation Unit during the duration of their treatment and receive 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care, while outpatients undergo therapy through the clinic and return home afterward.
  • Referrals: Inpatient rehabilitation referrals can be initiated by physicians, patients and their families, discharge planners and allied health professionals, while the outpatient clinic offers therapy services to hospital inpatients and the community through physician referral.
  • Cost: While inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRF) cost more per day than a lower level of care, studies suggest that IRF patients return home much sooner. Therefore, the significantly shorter lengths of stay reduce costs in the long run.
  • Treatment Frequency: Inpatients undergo therapy six days per week for a minimum of three hours per day, while outpatients undergo therapy based on individual evaluations.

Our inpatient rehabilitation program significantly helps individuals experiencing one or more of the following difficulties:

  • Limitations in self-care
  • Impaired mobility, balance and coordination
  • Limitations in joint strength or motion
  • Changes in memory, thought processing, reasoning and rational thinking
  • Speech and communication problems
  • Swallowing disorders

Yes. We encourage family members to do whatever they can to support the patient, including participating in the rehabilitation therapy process. Our interdisciplinary team of physicians and therapists work with each patient and their family to address the patient’s needs and progress at a personalized pace. We use a progressive approach to ensure each individualized treatment plan focuses on potential, not on limitations.

 There are two main methods of payment for rehabilitation patients to choose from, which include:

  • Medicare: Inpatient rehabilitation patients may be covered completely or in part by Medicare. Note that standard federal rules relating to individual hospital days apply.
  • Private: Insurance and managed care payments are based on contractual agreements between the hospital and the provider.
