LSVT BIG Therapy

About

Hunt Regional Medical Center offers a specialized therapy service for those with Parkinson's disease called LSVT BIG® Therapy.

LSVT BIG is a therapy program designed to enhance motor skills in people with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions like stroke, MS, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. It's backed by extensive research funded by the National Institutes of Health, spanning over 20 years, showing improvements in motor function test scores among Parkinson's patients after treatment.

Improvements from therapy can include: Faster walking with more significant steps, improved balance, and increased trunk rotation.

LSVT BIF Therapy Includes:

  • 16 sessions: four consecutive days a week for four weeks
  • Individual one hour sessions
  • Daily homework practice
  • Daily carryover exercises

LSVT BIG can teach those living with Parkinson’s disease how to avoid inactivity and ease movement while engaging in everyday activities. This helps improve our patients’ quality of life.
