Respiratory Therapy
At Hunt Regional Healthcare, our devoted staff of cardiopulmonary professionals is dedicated to providing the care you need in order to treat and/or manage your lung condition. We offer pulmonary therapy for a wide range of patients who will benefit from our state-of-the-art care. Regardless of your respiratory condition, we can design a pulmonary treatment to best fit your specific needs.
If intensive pulmonary therapy is required, we offer a number of inpatient services to alleviate your respiratory symptoms. Our cardiopulmonary team provides the following treatments to help optimize your daily functions and activities:
If a blood test determines that you are not getting enough oxygen into your blood stream , oxygen therapy can fix the problem. This inpatient respiratory therapy makes it easier to breathe and reduces the heart’s workload. Depending on your specific needs, our physicians will determine if you need oxygen therapy throughout the day, overnight, or at all times to ensure that your body is getting the proper amount of oxygen and to allow you to function at a higher capacity.
If you have a condition that causes swelling and mucus in the airways of the lungs, our physicians may recommend chest percussion and postural drainage as part of your inpatient treatment to make breathing easier and help prevent infection.
Postural drainage is a simple breathing technique that our physicians assist with while the patient is in a position that helps drain the fluid out of the lungs. This respiratory therapy is often done in tandem with chest percussion, which involves the clapping of the hand on the rib cage to loosen thick fluids in the lungs and alleviate breathing difficulties.
Aerosol therapy delivers a small amount of medicine directly into the lungs through an inhaler, allowing for the most direct treatment of any condition that impacts your airway function.
Similar to aerosol therapy, Hunt Regional Healthcare also offers nebulizer therapy. This respiratory therapy is easier on the patient because one is simply asked to breathe into the nebulizer. While inhaling and exhaling, the machine turns liquid medicine into a mist that you breathe into your lungs over a 5 to 10-minute period.
At Hunt Regional Medical Center, we offer respiratory therapy that is designed to alleviate your respiratory symptoms, optimize daily functions and activities, and improve any disability from chronic respiratory disease. Our various therapies and breathing techniques have proven beneficial if you have any of the following cardiopulmonary conditions or symptoms:
- Tracheostomies

- Emphysema
- Other cardiopulmonary disorders
The physicians at Hunt Regional are thoroughly trained in tracheostomy care and will ensure that you are properly cared for while in inpatient care. They will also make sure that you are fully educated in the care for your tracheostomy before leaving our facility.
