Emergency department nurse Erica Whirley, CEN, TCRN, has been selected as the 2021 Hunt Regional Healthcare Nurse of the Year. A peer-selected award, each year Hunt Regional nurses choose one exceptional nurse to honor as Nurse of the Year.
The nomination is open to any RN or LVN that has been employed by Hunt Regional Healthcare for at least one year and who meets set performance standards. Chosen by popular vote, the award identifies stand-out nurses across the organization. As part of the voting process, nurses are encouraged to comment about their selection.
Chief Nursing Officer Reese Hurley, MSN-Adm., RN, says that Erica stands out for her nursing knowledge and ability to solve problems quickly.
“Erica is the calm in the eye of the storm. She is always helpful and is the go-to person when no one knows the answers. She answers with a smile and always offers support and comfort,” said Hurley.
Whirley is one of the few nominees that was nominated from outside her home department. She joined Hunt Regional in 2009 and now acts as the night shift manager for the emergency department. Whirley is a certified emergency nurse and trauma-certified registered nurse and brings specialized emergency training to Hunt Regional’s nursing team.
