Make a bra for the Ninth Annual Bras for the Cause Oct. 12
Less than one week is left before Bras for the Cause takes over downtown Greenville with its “Lifter Upper” theme. This year’s event will take place Thursday, Oct. 12 when bra makers and voters will join forces for an evening of fun and giving.
Now in its ninth year, Bras for the Cause brings businesses and individuals from across Hunt County and surrounding communities together to raise awareness and money for cancer patients. On the night of Bras for the Cause, hundreds of decorated bras will be on display throughout downtown Greenville at Landon Winery, Uptown Forum, The Texan Theater, Capital Title, and Greenville Floral & Gifts. It is free to enter a bra and bra-makers can enter on their own or with a group of co-workers or friends.
Unlike many fundraisers that feed into national organizations, the money raised at Bras for the Cause is used to serve the needs of women and men fighting cancer right here at home. Money raised this year will help fund a 4D CT scanner for the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center at Hunt Regional Medical Center. 4D CT technology makes cancer radiation treatment faster and easier on patients. The scanner will also provide more precise treatment, allowing for greater preservation of healthy tissue.
Past events have helped fund vein finders, UV sterilization units for the cancer center, the purchase of the Tubby Adkisson Mobile Mammography Coach, and are also responsible for the creation and ongoing support of Janice’s Closet at Hunt Regional Medical Center.
Bras can be created using any combination of materials as long as entries are G-rated. Bras must be turned in a Landon Winery on Oct. 9-10 and online voting will open Oct. 10. Votes for your favorite bra are only $1 per vote. A panel of judges will select the coveted “BRA-Bie” winners from seven categories. There will also be five “BRAgging Rights” BRA-Bies presented to the top five fundraising bras.
Live viewing and voting will take place Oct. 12 from 6-8:30 pm. The awards presentation will begin at 9:15 p.m. in the Emerald Ballroom.
Dining will be available starting at 5 p.m. at Landon Winery, The Texan Coffee Shop, A La Mode, The Ashen Rose, Corner Street Pub, and Ain’t Just Pie’s pop-up table on Lee St. A portion of all food and beverage sales will be donated to the event.
