Harold Curtis Friend of the Foundation Award presented at hospital gala

The Twelfth Annual Music is the Best Medicine Foundation Gala, hosted by the Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation, was held Thursday, March 9. Foundation friends and sponsors filled the Sam Rayburn Student Center ballroom at Texas A&M Commerce-University to hear headlining quintet The Quibble Brothers and show their support for healthcare in Hunt County.

The evening’s biggest moment was the presentation of the Harold Curtis Friend of the Foundation Award to Dana Cash and Pud Kearns.

Cash and Kearns are the organizers of Bras for the Cause, along with foundation director Alicia Wittkopf. Together, the women work year-round to carry on the community-wide event established by local philanthropist and Calico Cat owner Janeen Cunningham.

“When issuing nominations for the award this year, it made sense to nominate my two best girls, Dana and Pud. Each year, there is a lot of blood, sweat, and tears of joy shed over this labor of love, Bras for the Cause,” said Wittkopf.

“I am so pleased to be able to show my appreciation for all they do by presenting them with the Harold C. Curtis award. It is certainly well-earned, year after year,” she said.

The award is presented annually in memory of Harold Curtis, who spent more than 50 years serving as the hospital’s legal counsel and devoted countless hours to helping create the foundation. After his death in 2006, an award was created to honor those who have followed his path by dedicating their time, talent, and financial resources to meet the needs of others through the foundation.
