Bras for the Cause presents Table Talk

6/16/2017

Feeling normal during cancer treatment can be challenging, particularly for a woman who has undergone breast cancer treatment. Bras for the Cause wants to help bring that beautiful feeling back, starting with “Table Talk,” a new event for 2017. Hosted at the Texan Theater, the luncheon is scheduled for June 20 and will feature an open panel discussion led by Barb Horan.

Organizers hope that the candid dialog will empower attendees to support other women by arming them with information about breast cancer in Hunt County, the resources available at Janice’s Closet, and the many services available for cancer patients and their families. Additional topics will include ways to encourage loved ones and how to help them feel beautiful during treatment and recovery—an important part of making the transition from patient to survivor.

When a woman has had a mastectomy, changes in her appearance can affect her attitude on healing and life. The additional burden of affording post-treatment accessories can compound that struggle. Recognizing that every woman deserves to feel good about herself during breast cancer treatment, Janice’s Closet at Hunt Regional Medical Center serves to alter that outlook.

With a staff of certified mastectomy fitters, the room provides compression garments, wig vouchers, prostheses, and more for Hunt County women in need. Ongoing support for Janice’s Closet is provided by Bras for the Cause, in conjunction with the Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation.

“We can help the women we love by becoming informed about the reality of their journey. Table Talk promises to be an interesting and informative event, with a healthy side of laughter,” says Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation Executive Director and Bras for the Cause organizer, Alicia Wittkopf.

Featured panelists will include Meera Shreedhara, MD, medical oncologist with the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center; Carolyn Keene, local breast cancer survivor; Janeen Cunningham, Bras for the Cause founder; and Kelly Pulley, certified mastectomy garment fitter.

Table Talk tickets are $40 each and include lunch. As a grand finale, the 2017 Bras for the Cause theme and the new project beneficiary for this year’s event will be revealed. T-shirts will be available for purchase.
